Exodus 12:1-14
KJV And the LORD spake unto Moses and
Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying,
2 This month shall be unto you the beginning of
months: it shall be the first
month of the year to you. 3 Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel,
saying, In the tenth day of
this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an
house: 4
And if the household be too little for the lamb, let him and his
neighbour next unto his house take it
according to the number of the souls; every man according to his eating shall
make your count for the lamb. 5 Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of
the first year: ye shall take it
out from the sheep, or from the goats:
6 And ye shall keep it up until
the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the
congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening. 7 And they shall take of the blood, and
strike it on the two side posts
and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it. 8 And they shall eat the flesh in that night,
roast with fire, and unleavened bread; and
with bitter herbs they shall
eat it. 9 Eat not of it raw, nor sodden
at all with water, but roast with
fire; his head with his legs, and with the purtenance thereof. 10 And ye shall let nothing of it remain
until the morning; and that which remaineth of it until the morning ye shall
burn with fire. 11 And thus shall ye eat
it; with your loins girded,
your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in
haste: it is the LORD'S
passover. 12 For I will pass through the land of Egypt
this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and
beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD. 13 And the blood shall be to you for a token
upon the houses where ye are:
and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be
upon you to destroy you, when I
smite the land of Egypt. 14 And this day
shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the LORD
throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever.
1 Corinthians
5:6-8 KJV 6 Your glorying is
not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump? 7 Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye
may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is
sacrificed for us: 8 Therefore let us
keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and
wickedness; but with the unleavened bread
of sincerity and truth.
1 Corinthians
11:23-33 KJV 23 For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered
unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same
night in which he was betrayed took bread:
24 And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for
you: this do in remembrance of me. 25
After the same manner also he took
the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood:
this do ye, as oft as ye drink it,
in remembrance of me. 26 For as often as
ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he
come. 27 Wherefore whosoever shall eat
this bread, and drink this cup
of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. 28 But let a man examine himself, and so let
him eat of that bread, and
drink of that cup. 29 For he that eateth and drinketh
unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's
body. 30 For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and
many sleep. 31 For if we would judge
ourselves, we should not be judged. 32
But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be
condemned with the world. 33 Wherefore,
my brethren, when ye come together to eat, tarry one for another.
On
Good Friday we celebrate Christ our Passover a direct and prophetic fulfillment
of the Passover instituted by Yahweh when He was about to lead Israel out of
Egypt. We will look at a simple comparison of some of the Passover elements and
their fulfillment in Christ.
1. A. THE LAMB WAS CHOSEN
Exodus 12:3-4 KJV
Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to
them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house: 4 And if the household be too little for the
lamb, let him and his neighbour next unto his house take it according to the number of the
souls; every man according to his eating shall make your count for the lamb.
1. B. CHRIST
CHOSEN BEFORE THE FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD
John 1:29 KJV
The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of
God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
Matthew 21:1-5
KJV And when they drew nigh unto
Jerusalem, and were come to Bethphage, unto the mount of Olives, then sent
Jesus two disciples, 2 Saying unto them, Go into the village over
against you, and straightway ye shall find an ass tied, and a colt with her:
loose them, and bring them unto me. 3 And if any man say ought unto you, ye shall say, The Lord hath need of
them; and straightway he will send them.
4 All this was done, that it
might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, 5 Tell
ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon
an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass.
1 Peter 1:18-20 KJV
Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain
conversation received by
tradition from your fathers; 19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a
lamb without blemish and without spot: 20
Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was
manifest in these last times for you,
2. A. THE LAMB
WAS WITHOUT BLEMISH
Exodus 12:5 KJV
Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the
goats:
2. B. JESUS WAS
WITHOUT BLEMISH
1 Peter 1:19 KJV
But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without
spot:
1 Peter 2:21-22 KJV
For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving
us an example, that ye should follow his steps:
22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:
Luke 23:4 KJV
Then said Pilate to the chief priests and to the people, I find no fault in this man.
John 18:38 KJV
Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out
again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all.
John 19:4-6 KJV
Pilate therefore went forth again, and saith unto them, Behold, I bring him
forth to you, that ye may know that I find no fault in him. 5 Then came Jesus forth, wearing the crown of
thorns, and the purple robe. And Pilate
saith unto them, Behold the man! 6 When
the chief priests therefore and officers saw him, they cried out, saying,
Crucify him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Take ye
him, and crucify him: for I
find no fault in him.
1 John 3:5 KJV
And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.
3. A. THE LAMB WAS KILLED ON THE 14TH DAY
OF NISAN
Exodus 12:6 KJV
And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the
whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening.
3. B. JESUS THE
LAMB OF GOD ALSO DIED ON 14TH NISAN
John 19:28-30 KJV
After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the
scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.
29 Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge
with vinegar, and put it upon
hyssop, and put it to his mouth. 30 When Jesus therefore had received the
vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
Matthew 27:45-54
KJV Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth
hour. 46 And about the ninth hour Jesus
cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My
God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? 47
Some of them that stood there, when they heard that, said, This man
calleth for Elias. 48 And straightway
one of them ran, and took a spunge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it
on a reed, and gave him to drink. 49 The
rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to save him. 50 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud
voice, yielded up the ghost. 51 And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent
in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks
rent; 52
And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept
arose, 53 And came out of the graves after his
resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many. 54 Now when the centurion, and they that were
with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done,
they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.
4. A. NO BONE OF
THE LAMB WAS TO BE BROKEN
Exodus 12:43-47 KJV
And the LORD said unto Moses and Aaron, This is the ordinance of the passover: There shall no stranger eat
thereof: 44 But every man's servant that
is bought for money, when thou hast circumcised him, then shall he eat
thereof. 45 A foreigner and an hired
servant shall not eat thereof. 46 In one
house shall it be eaten; thou shalt not carry forth ought of the flesh abroad
out of the house; neither shall ye break a bone thereof. 47 All
the congregation of Israel shall keep it.
4. B. NO BONE OF
THE LAMB OF GOD WAS BROKEN
John 19:31-37
KJV The Jews therefore, because it was
the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the
sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their
legs might be broken, and that
they might be taken away. 32 Then came
the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was
crucified with him. 33 But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he
was dead already, they brake not his legs:
34 But one of the soldiers with a
spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water. 35 And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that he
saith true, that ye might believe. 36
For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of
him shall not be broken. 37 And again
another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced.
5. A. THE LAMB’S
BLOOD IS APPLIED TO THE SIDE POSTS AND UPPER DOOR POSTS. LATER ON IT WAS
APPLIED TO THE MERCY SEAT IN THE HOLY OF HOLIES
Exodus 12:7 KJV
And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the
houses, wherein they shall eat it.
Leviticus
16:14-16 KJV And he shall take of the
blood of the bullock, and sprinkle it
with his finger upon the mercy seat eastward; and before the mercy seat shall
he sprinkle of the blood with his finger seven times. 15
Then shall he kill the goat of the sin offering, that is for the people, and bring his
blood within the vail, and do with that blood as he did with the blood of the
bullock, and sprinkle it upon the mercy seat, and before the mercy seat: 16 And
he shall make an atonement for the holy place,
because of the uncleanness of the children of Israel, and because of their
transgressions in all their sins: and so shall he do for the tabernacle of the
congregation, that remaineth among them in the midst of their uncleanness.
Hebrews 9:7-9
KJV But into the second went the high priest alone once every
year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people: 8 The
Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet
made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing: 9 Which
was a figure for the time then
present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make
him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience;
5. B. JESUS’ BLOOD IS APPLIED TO OUR HEARTS AND THE
MERCY SEAT IN HEAVEN
Hebrews 9:11-14 KJV
But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and
more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this
building; 12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but
by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained
eternal redemption for us. 13 For
if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the
unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh: 14 How
much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered
himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the
living God?
Hebrews 9:24-28
KJV For Christ is not entered into the
holy places made with hands, which are
the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence
of God for us: 25 Nor yet that he should offer himself often,
as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of
others; 26 For then must he often have suffered since
the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he
appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. 27 And
as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: 28 So
Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for
him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.
Hebrews 10:16-25
KJV This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days,
saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I
write them; 17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember
no more. 18 Now where remission of these
is, there is no more offering
for sin. 19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter
into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,
20 By a new and living way, which
he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; 21 And
having an high priest over the
house of God; 22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full
assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and
our bodies washed with pure water. 23
Let us hold fast the profession of our
faith without wavering; (for he is
faithful that promised;) 24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto
love and to good works: 25 Not forsaking
the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as
ye see the day approaching.
