THE PRESENCE OF THE LORD

1 Corinthians 2:1-16 KJV 1 And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God.  2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.  3 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling.  4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:  5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.  6 Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought:  7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:  8 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.  9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.  10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.  11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.  12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.  13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.  14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.  15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.  16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.

Theologians define the presence of the LORD as omnipresent, manifest or indwelling.
David said: Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?  8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.  9 If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; 10 Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.  11 If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me.  12 Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee. Psalms 139:7-12 KJV  
His omnipresence is being everywhere. We cannot escape that fact!  He hovered like a dove over the waters of creation but longs to be with you in a special way. He was with Israel in his omnipresence but manifested Himself in the Temple. There is a desire in God to have man dwell in His presence. God wants to manifest His glory to you so that you can rejoice in His presence and share in his glory

MAN WALKED IN GOD’S PRESENCE BEFORE THE FALL
There is a special way in which God wants to commune with man:
Adam had that special relationship with God before the fall. He dwelt in the presence of God who walked in the garden and talked with Adam.
Of man the psalmist says: When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; 4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?  5 For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.  6  Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:  7  All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field;  8  The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.  9 O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! Psalms 8:3-9 KJV 

After the fall a tragic statement is made: And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.  Genesis 3:8 KJV
They hid from the presence of YAHWEH. It was a presence they were accustomed to but with the act of disobedience they were immediately aware of estrangement from the presence of the LORD. Man in disobedience is cut off from the presence of God.
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;  Romans 3:23 KJV  Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:  Romans 5:12 KJV

JESUS CAME TO RECONCILE MAN TO HIS ORIGINAL STATUS WITH GOD
Jesus came to restore man to the original relationship, to make available once again access to the glory from which we fell short.
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.  Romans 5:8 KJV
To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.  2 Corinthians 5:19 KJV
Colossians 1:10-29 KJV  That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;  11  Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;  12  Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:  13  Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:  14  In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:  15  Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:  16  For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:  17  And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.  18  And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. 
19  For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;  20  And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.  21  And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled  22  In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight: 
23  If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;  24  Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body's sake, which is the church:  25  Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;  26  Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:  27  To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:  28  Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus:  29  Whereunto I also labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily.

SEEK THE MANIFEST PRESENCE OF GOD NOT TRADITIONS AND PERSONAL AGENDA
When we begin to follow hard after God and seek His face to the exclusion of everything He reveals Himself to us and we enter into His presence.
 2 Corinthians 3:17-18 KJV 17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.  18  But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

When we become involved in our own agenda God hovers but when we seek His will, His face, His presence, His glory then He settles and His glory fills the temple. Ichabod is written over the door of many churches and the hearts of men because of their departure from the presence and clinging to their own agenda and traditions and culture.
 1 Samuel 4:19-22 KJV  And his daughter in law, Phinehas' wife, was with child, near to be delivered: and when she heard the tidings that the ark of God was taken, and that her father in law and her husband were dead, she bowed herself and travailed; for her pains came upon her.  20 And about the time of her death the women that stood by her said unto her, Fear not; for thou hast born a son. But she answered not, neither did she regard it.  21 And she named the child Ichabod, saying, The glory is departed from Israel: because the ark of God was taken, and because of her father in law and her husband.  22 And she said, The glory is departed from Israel: for the ark of God is taken.
Israel had a hollow form of worship which proved tragically ineffective against the attacks of the enemy. They mistook the structures and forms of worship for the presence of God but all they had was an empty shell.

 Mark 7:6-13 KJV He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.  7 Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.  8 For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.  9 And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.  10  For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, Whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death:  11  But ye say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is Corban, that is to say, a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; he shall be free.  12 And ye suffer him no more to do ought for his father or his mother; 13 Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.

Colossians 2:8-9 KJV Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.  9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
Colossians 2:16-19 KJV Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:  17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.  18  Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,  19  And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God.
Do not be mislead into holding on to the shadows seeing Christ has brought the substance to us…in fact He is the substance and fulfillment of all types and shadows. We are no longer chasing after shadows and traditions for we have reality in our spirits “…CHRIST IN YOU THE HOPE OF GLORY”

INVITE YAHWEH’S MANIFEST PRESENCE THROUGH TRUE WORSHIP
John 4:21-24 KJV Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.  22 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.  23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.  24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

In the Bible His glory came down when true worship prevailed.
After Moses completed the tabernacle it was filled with Yahweh’s glory
Exodus 40:34-35 KJV Then a cloud covered the tent of the congregation, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.  35 And Moses was not able to enter into the tent of the congregation, because the cloud abode thereon, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.

Of the temple that Solomon built the Scripture records:
It came even to pass, as the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the LORD; and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of musick, and praised the LORD, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: that then the house was filled with a cloud, even the house of the LORD;  14  So that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud: for the glory of the LORD had filled the house of God. 2 Chronicles 5:13-14 KJV 
Again after Solomon finished praying:
 Now when Solomon had made an end of praying, the fire came down from heaven, and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the LORD filled the house.  2 And the priests could not enter into the house of the LORD, because the glory of the LORD had filled the LORD'S house.  3  And when all the children of Israel saw how the fire came down, and the glory of the LORD upon the house, they bowed themselves with their faces to the ground upon the pavement, and worshipped, and praised the LORD, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever. 2 Chronicles 7:1-3 KJV 

What kind of people seeks the face of YAHWEH?
Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place?  4 He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.  5 He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.  6 This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, O Jacob. Selah. Psalms 24:3-6 KJV
People with clean hands
People with pure hearts
Souls that are not inclined to useless, false, vain idolatry
People who have not used guile, subtlety, treachery in their oaths. 

The confidence of the saint is in YAHWEH Who is his light, salvation and strength (place of defence). The enemy cannot defeat the saint who lives in the presence of the LORD.
The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?  2 When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.  3 Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.  4  One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple.  5 For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.  6 And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD.  7 Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice: have mercy also upon me, and answer me.  8 When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, LORD, will I seek.  9 Hide not thy face far from me; put not thy servant away in anger: thou hast been my help; leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation. Psalms 27:1-9 KJV 

When the face of God shines on His people good things begin to happen!

God be merciful unto us, and bless us; and cause his face to shine upon us; Selah.  2 That thy way may be known upon earth, thy saving health among all nations.  3 Let the people praise thee, O God; let all the people praise thee.  4 O let the nations be glad and sing for joy: for thou shalt judge the people righteously, and govern the nations upon earth. Selah.  5 Let the people praise thee, O God; let all the people praise thee.  6 Then shall the earth yield her increase; and God, even our own God, shall bless us.  7 God shall bless us; and all the ends of the earth shall fear him. Psalms 67:1-7 KJV 

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalms 16:11 KJV 

 When God’s people praise Him something happens But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.  Psalms 22:3 KJV
It stands to reason that the more praise and worship rise from our hearts the more we can experience His presence. For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.  19  Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;  20  And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;  21  In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:  22  In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit. Ephesians 2:18-22 KJV 

As a child of God Christ lives in me. I have eternal life. Within this body of time dwells God who inhabits eternity. The concept of God living in me is staggering. I am bigger on the inside than on the outside, for Almighty God is able to live in me. I cannot, should not, and will not allow my body to subject me to its limitations. Rather I will allow God  who “… is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,  (Ephesians 3:20 KJV) to work in me For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.  Philippians 2:13 KJV

DEVICES OF THE DEVIL: FEAR

2 Corinthians 2:10-11 KJV  10  To whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ;  11  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

Romans 8:1-17 KJV There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.  2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.  3  For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:  4  That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.  5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.  6  For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.  7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.  8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.  9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.  10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.  11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.  12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.  13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.  14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.  15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.  16  The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:  17  And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
2 Timothy 1:7 KJV For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
 1 John 4:17-18 KJV  Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.  18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
Hebrews 2:14-15 KJV  Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;  15  And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. 
   
SO far we have looked at discouragement, confusion and deception. We have by no means exhausted the subjects but merely touched on it. If the devil finds that he can defeat you with a single weapon every time then he will certainly continue to use it or variations of it since you constantly allow yourself to be entrapped there in.
The end result of all this is to blind your minds to the truth of God's word, to deflect you from becoming effective in God's service, to prevent you from realizing victory in your life.
He will play you against each other. He will probe until he finds your weak spot and will apply pressure until you cave in. Do NOT trust him, not for a second, not for a fraction of a second, not for ANY amount of time. He will try to make you ineffective. He will try to split you up and pit you against each other. He can play you like a musical instrument if you are unaware and the music he produces from you will not be for God's glory. Be sober, be vigilant, be on guard, be aware, be watchful, be prepared.
Victory in Christ, contrary to what many preach is not complete physical and financial and social wholeness. It is the realization and certainty that in spite of what the enemy tries, you are able to rise above it because you are connected to the Risen Lord who said These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.  John 16:33 KJV...so the world cannot overcome you...Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.  Romans 8:37 KJV   and you are positively aware that ALL things work together for YOUR good even though you may not see the end product
THE BIBLE SPEAKS OF TWO KINDS OF FEAR
1. There is a fear that is commanded This kind of fear involves respect, honor, reverence, and a sense of awe.

For Instance:
Psa_19:9 The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.
Psa_25:14 The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant.
Psa_33:18 Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy;
Psa_34:7 The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.
Psa_34:9 O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him.
Psa_34:11 Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the LORD.
Psa_103:11 For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him.
Psa_103:13 Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him.
Psa_103:17 But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children's children;
Pro_1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
Pro_9:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.
Pro_14:27 The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.
Pro_15:16 Better is little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble therewith.
Pro_19:23 The fear of the LORD tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.
Pro_22:4 By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life.

Then there is the other kind of fear which we talk about today

Psychologists tell us that we are born with two fears, the fear of falling and the fear of noise; but we soon develop many more. In fact man has defined a lot of fears or phobias. A phobia is an intense but unrealistic fear that can interfere with the ability to socialize, work, or go about everyday life, brought on by an object, event or situation.  (Free Dictionary)

Psychologists state some common phobias as:
Arachnophobia: The fear of spiders.
Ophidiophobia: The fear of snakes.
Acrophobia: The fear of heights.
Agoraphobia: The fear of situations in which escape is difficult.
Cynophobia: The fear of dogs.
Astraphobia: The fear of thunder and lightning.
Trypanophobia: The fear of injections.
Social Phobias: The fear of social situations. In many cases, these phobias can become so severe that people avoid events, places, and people that are likely to trigger an anxiety attack.
Pteromerhanophobia: The fear of flying.
Mysophobia: The fear of germs or dirt.

Satan preys upon man by instilling fear in them thorough a web of lies deception and confusion
In the battle we are engaged in, we need to gather intelligence on the enemy's strategies and plans. We need to verify that these are accurate reports and not merely there to mislead or misdirect us. To some people, lies come so naturally that we do not even raise a question because they speak a lie as though it is true. Many have become the masters of deception, which may be an admirable asset in certain places in the world system but is totally unacceptable with God.

 WE NEED TO BE AWARE OF THE SOURCE OF FEAR.
Fear does not come from God results from yielding devilish attacks... threat of exposure
2 Timothy 1:7 KJV For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

WE NEED TO BE AWARE OF THE RESULTS OF FEAR
 Fear causes all manner of irrational behavior in people. We hide, run, pretend, lie etc.
Luke 19:12-21 KJV  He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.  13  And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.  14  But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us.  15  And it came to pass, that when he was returned, having received the kingdom, then he commanded these servants to be called unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading.  16  Then came the first, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained ten pounds.  17  And he said unto him, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities.  18  And the second came, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained five pounds.  19  And he said likewise to him, Be thou also over five cities.  20  And another came, saying, Lord, behold, here is thy pound, which I have kept laid up in a napkin:  21  For I feared thee, because thou art an austere man: thou takest up that thou layedst not down, and reapest that thou didst not sow.

Abraham feared for his life and lied. His son later did the same thing.
Genesis 12:11-13 KJV And it came to pass, when he was come near to enter into Egypt, that he said unto Sarai his wife, Behold now, I know that thou art a fair woman to look upon:  12 Therefore it shall come to pass, when the Egyptians shall see thee, that they shall say, This is his wife: and they will kill me, but they will save thee alive.  13 Say, I pray thee, thou art my sister: that it may be well with me for thy sake; and my soul shall live because of thee.

Adam and Eve became afraid after sinning and they hid.

WE NEED TO KNOW VICTORY OVER FEAR
In Christ we find the peace and love that is the antidote to fear. His message constantly was “Fear not!”
John 14:27 KJV Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
2 Timothy 1:7 KJV For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

DEVICES OF THE DEVIL-DECEPTION

2 Corinthians 2:10-11 KJV  10  To whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ;  11  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.
1 Timothy 2:14 KJV And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.
2 Corinthians 11:3-4 KJV But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.  4  For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.
Difference between temptation and deception
If I tempted you, you would know it. If I deceived you, you wouldn’t know it. If you know you are being deceived, then you are not really being deceived since you are aware.
Why was Eve deceived?
Eve was deceived because she believed the lie that God did not want what was best for her, but didn’t know it was a lie. We can see from Genesis 3 that deception was the primary strategy of Satan from the beginning. Perhaps some of us look down on Eve for being deceived by the serpent in the garden? But each time we sin we’re deceived by the same kind of lies.

DECEPTION, n.
1. The act of deceiving or misleading. All deception is a misapplication of the established signs used to communicate thoughts.
2. The state of being deceived or misled. Incautious and inexperienced youth is peculiarly exposed to deception.
3. Artifice practiced; cheat;

DECEIVE, v.t. [L to take aside, to ensnare.]
1. To mislead the mind; to cause to err; to cause to believe what is false, or disbelieve what is true; to impose on; to delude.
2. To beguile; to cheat.
3. To cut off from expectation; to frustrate or disappoint;
4. To take from; to rob.

Deception is the art of taking a little bit of truth and artfully weaving around and into it a tangled web of lies, so that truth becomes indistinguishable and the victim becomes caught in the web of lies, resulting in somewhat disastrous consequences to him and those close to him.
Many of us live a totally messed up life based on deception, composed of a web of lies. The student does not want his or her friends to know what type of background they are from if their parents are poor, hard working and unable to provide the fancy stuff their friends have. So they lie and pretend, and then come home frustrated with their parents and their life. The parents do not want their children to endure the shame and stigma of being the poor child so they spend beyond their means to make their children level up with their peers, and at the same time end up instilling in their children's minds that the life style at home is undesirable and evil.

Deception again occurs through three areas...the world, the flesh and the devil.
In speaking of the world we obviously are not referring to the natural world but the world system that presents its allurements to achieve power, fame, fortune and knowledge hidden from common man.
Deception abounds through religion...not just obviously false religions, but also false rituals, teaching, doctrines and practices in Christianity

BEWARE THE MASTER OF DECEPTION
 Revelation 12:9 KJV And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
It can be noted that in all his devilish plans and intentions towards us, the devil's aim is to destroy. Paul reminds us that we are not ignorant of his plans, thoughts and intentions towards us. It can be said that his primary tool in this respect is DECEPTION! Deception enshrouds all his activities in getting you to sin and stray from God to ultimate destruction. It is his foremost tool in getting you to doubt God's Word and losing out with God's will. It is his natural tool to cause you to open a crack in the door for him to get in his deceptive foot, in order to release his evil poison into your soul. It is you who takes it from there! 
He makes us see what our base self wants to see. We interpret what we hear in the sense he wants us to...and we act accordingly, since once we are deceived we proceed by ourselves to destruction.

Satan deceives by expert and effective use of lies, by painting a picture that is alluring and glowing and seemingly harmless.  He subtly puts a lie to the Word of God, puts a hook in your nose, and gently tugs you on to commit and to indulge in that which God commanded and warned against.
Jesus speaks of the devil thus: Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.  44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.  45 And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not. John 8:43-45 KJV
1 Timothy 4:1-3 KJV Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;  2  Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;  3  Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.

BEWARE OF DECEITFUL MEN
Look at the warnings we have against such who lie in wait to deceive:
Jeremiah 29:8 KJV For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Let not your prophets and your diviners, that be in the midst of you, deceive you, neither hearken to your dreams which ye cause to be dreamed.
Mark 13:5 KJV And Jesus answering them began to say, Take heed lest any man deceive you:
Mark 13:6 KJV For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
Ephesians 5:6 KJV Let no men deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
2 Thessalonians 2:3 KJV  Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
1 John 3:7 KJV Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
Matthew 24:4 KJV And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
Matthew 24:5 KJV For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
Matthew 24:11 KJV And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
Matthew 24:24 KJV For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
Romans 16:18 KJV For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.
2 Timothy 3:13 KJV But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. 

This is why Christ:  …gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;  12  For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:  13  Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:  14  That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;  15  But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:  16  From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love. Ephesians 4:11-16 KJV 

BEWARE OF SELF DECEPTION
1 John 1:8 KJV If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
Galatians 6:3 KJV For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.
James 1:22 KJV But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
James 1:26 KJV If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.
We are all prone to self deception having a tendency to believe our own thoughts to the exclusion of others even if we believe a lie. The end result is not at all encouraging!
For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.  8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:  9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, 10  And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.  11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:  12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness. 2 Thessalonians 2:7-12 KJV

DECEPTION IS NEVER A GOOD THING
In Deception you are made to believe something that is not true.

1. Deception involves lies and more lies, making you a liar which is an abomination to the Lord.
Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight.  Proverbs 12:22 KJV
These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:  17  A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,  18  An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,  19  A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren. Proverbs 6:16-19 KJV 
Titus 3:3 KJV For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.
1 Corinthians 15:33 KJV Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.

2. Deception also makes you a servant of sin and the devil.
Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.  John 8:34 KJV
Romans 6:16-18 KJV  Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?  17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.  18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.

2 Peter 2:19-22 KJV While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.  20  For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.  21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.  22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

3. Deception brings death and separation from God
Galatians 6:7-8 KJV Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.  8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
 Romans 7:11 KJV For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me.
And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life. Revelation 21:27 KJV
 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 KJV 9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, 10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.  11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

FAILURE TO CONSULT AND OBEY YAHWEH LEADS TO DECEPTION
The original deception practiced was on Eve:
1 Timothy 2:14 KJV And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.
Genesis 3:1-7 KJV Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?  2  And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:  3  But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.  4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:  5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.  6  And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.  7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.

The Gibeonites practiced deception on the Israelites:
Joshua 9:3-6 KJV And when the inhabitants of Gibeon heard what Joshua had done unto Jericho and to Ai, They did work wilily, and went and made as if they had been ambassadors, and took old sacks upon their asses, and wine bottles, old, and rent, and bound up; And old shoes and clouted upon their feet, and old garments upon them; and all the bread of their provision was dry and mouldy. And they went to Joshua unto the camp at Gilgal, and said unto him, and to the men of Israel, We be come from a far country: now therefore make ye a league with us.
Joshua 9:14 KJV  And the men took of their victuals, and asked not counsel at the mouth of the LORD.
Joshua and his men never checked out the story and they never consulted with the Lord, their Commander-in-Chief. "No problem," they reasoned. "How can it be wrong when it seems so right?" Here we see good people and godly people faithful to the Lord can be deceived. They were deceived by appearances.  They would have done well to have known what God told Samuel years later: But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart. 1 Samuel 16:7 KJV 
Paul said: Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.  1 Thessalonians 5:21 KJV

John said do not just believe them but try the spirits: Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.  1 John 4:1 KJV

Of course this is in no way exhaustive but I trust it serves to give you a fair idea of what we are up against and to understand that we cannot hope to defeat this enemy by ourselves. It is important that we recognize the time tested battle proven weapon of choice against deception: THE WORD OF GOD!
Jesus made use of it effectively against the enemy and it makes up part of the Spiritual warrior’s arsenal.
Matthew 4:1-11 KJV Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.  2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.  3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.  4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.  5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,  6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.  7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.  8  Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;  9  And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.  10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.  11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

To use a weapon effectively we must know the weapon and be trained in its use. To use the Word we must know the Word and be trained in it use! Therefore we need to:  Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.  16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness. 2 Timothy 2:15-16 KJV 
John said: I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one. 1 John 2:14 KJV 

Remember it is the one weapon that we can maneuver and wield:  For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12 KJV 
Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not;  2  But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God. 2 Corinthians 4:1-2 KJV
For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ. 2 Corinthians 2:17 KJV 
Remember: Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. Proverbs 30:5 KJV
